Lot 2810, Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, Bandar Johor Bahru, 80000
Chaiwalla & Co. is widely credited as JB's first container cafe, opening in 2012 on the Tan Hiok Nee heritage street. The concept is simple: a converted shipping container decked out in industrial-vintage style with pops of greenery, serving customisable teas and coffee. It helped kickstart the cafe culture on what is now one of JB's most-visited heritage streets.
The draw is the novelty and the drinks. You can customise your own chai or milk tea from a menu of bases and toppings. Food is limited to pies, brownies, and basic pasta. This is a drinks-first stop, not a brunch destination. The late-night hours (until midnight or 1am on weekends) make it one of the few JB cafes you can visit after dinner.
There is no indoor seating. It is a container with standing and grab-and-go service, so it can get hot during the day. Best visited in the evening when the heritage street comes alive. The area is walkable from CIQ, making it one of the most accessible JB cafe stops for bus travellers.

The interior IS the product. Garden themes, industrial lofts, vintage libraries. You go for the photos as much as the coffee.
