About

Zi Jin Cheng is the most single-minded stall on this list. They serve boneless chicken rice and nothing else. No roasted option, no side dishes, no drinks. The menu is one item. You can taste the focus.

The chicken is deboned and served in neat slices. The texture is silky and the skin has a light gelatinous quality. The rice is fragrant and the sauce balance is well-judged. Michelin Selected since January 2023 (one tier below Bib Gourmand).

The catch is availability. Zi Jin Cheng opens only a few days a week (some sources say Tuesday to Saturday, others Wednesday to Saturday) and often sells out by early afternoon. Alexandra Village Food Centre is accessible by bus from Queenstown MRT. Arrive by 10:30am to be safe, and check directly if you are making a special trip.

Style: Hainanese Steamed

The original. Chicken poached in aromatic stock then ice-bathed for silky texture. Subtle, clean flavour. The jelly layer under the skin is the hallmark.
